The festival is celebrated across the four corners of India or rather across the globe. The festival is filled with so much fun and frolic that the very mention of the word ‘Holi’ draws smile and enthusiasm amongst the people.
Holi also celebrates the arrival of Spring, a season of joy and hopes. We at Cambridge Montessori Preschool, celebrate this festival with a lot of zeal too. Here’s how we have a colourful time with our kids at our Holi celebrations.
First, we Educate our Kids about the Festival its Significance.
1. Holi is an ancient Hindu religious festival which is primarily observed in India and Nepal. In later years the festival has spread to become popular in parts of Europe and North America.
2. Holi is about bringing people together, and all differences such as class, gender and race are forgotten.
3. The festival signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring and the end of winter.
4. Holi is a 2-day festival. On day 1 a bonfire is lit to signify the destruction of evil. It is on the morning of the second day that people go outside to celebrate with coloured powder and water.
5. It is also known as the Festival of Colour or the Festival of Love.
After that, the celebrations start with a lot of Fun Activities.
1. Finger Painting
Finger Painting is the fun activity which enjoyed by kids a lot, just dip their little fingers in paint and tell them to make interesting painting or shapes with their colourful fingers. We suggest use chemical-free colours for these kinds of activities so it will not harm their tender skin.
2. Rangoli Competition
Rangoli competition is a suitable activity for little older kids. Give them paper sheets and tell to smear glue on them. Use coloured sand, or colourful confetti or just bits of colourful paper to smear on the paper in designs of their choice. I am sure you will amaze to see their creative designs.
3. Painting Competition
Painting competition is the most fun loving activity of the kids and when you let them free to paint they enjoyed it more. Ask them to make a colourful painting give them a theme and let their imagination fly. You can go to different kind of painting techniques like ice painting, straw painting and lots more.
3. Holi Puppet Show
Plan a puppet show for your kids to convey a social story or to illustrate the historic and religious significance of Holi. This will be one of the most unique forms of entertainment and you can be sure that your child will be instantly reeled in. This has become a crowd favourite and we do it a lot.
4. Design Colour Bouquets
We help your kids become better stewards of the environment by helping them enjoy an activity that celebrates the beauty of nature by making eco-friendly craft flowers. Craft activities are stimulating for children, allowing them to think out of the box while having fun.
We help them make colourful bouquets to celebrate the festival of Holi. We even incorporate traditional Holi colours made from organic and herbal products into the creations by using small circular packets of the colours as a stick-on eye or disk for each flower.
5. Fun with Paper Mache
There is growing concern about the state of the environment because of the widespread use of plastic and the wastage of natural resources like water. These issues have put a dampener on Holi celebrations, as kids had fun playing with plastic bags and balloons filled with water in the past.
We’ll get your child interested in Holi by embracing the colourful nature of the festival in an environmentally friendly manner. Instead of wasting water and using plastic bags, introduce them to the art of paper mache. With just a little glue, cardboard, and paint they can transform old newspapers into colourful works of art. They can even use these skills to create vibrant paper mache gifts that resonate with the flavour of the festival.
