1. Orienteering
The first thing that comes to everyone’s mind when we want to keep kids healthy is sports. Not every child is interested in sports, they would play them and still not enjoy them.
The good news is there are plenty of unique ways to keep your kids active.
Get your kids started on adventures that are just as challenging as team sports.
Orienteering can be practiced on a small scale and the child will enjoy it.
The multi-course nature of the activity will refresh the child after completing each small segment.
This ensures all the muscle exercise of sports with a little unique twist.
It doesn’t have to be done alone, the child can have a fun competitive sport to see who completes the course the fastest.
2. Scavenger Hunt
Get your kids to make a list of things to find along the way.
Include on your list things like certain toys, snacks etc., and get the kids to mark off things as they go.
This is a very fun way to get kids to move around when they feel lazy.
Make sure to give them a satisfying reward at the end of the hunt to make them feel their efforts paid off.
3. Tap to the beat
Kids love music, we can use music to get them to move around when they feel lazy.
When you play something with an upbeat tempo, it can motivate even the laziest to get moving.
Try setting aside “Tidy Dance” times, when everyone in the house helps to tidy while rocking out to some great tunes.
The kids can pick up their toys or other little things during the tidy dance session, this will also prepare them for small chores once they are of the right age.
4. Play follow the leader
Follow the leader is a game that many young children love to play, and it not only keeps kids active but can help build important motor skills.
Take it in turns to follow each other around the house and yard, being sure to include things like jumps, stretches, lunges and skipping.
5. Play with pets
If you own a pet, set aside a little time when the child can play with the pet with adult supervision. This is a great way to get kids to be active.
If you don’t have a pet you could always take them to parks and do fun things like bird watching.
6. Learn something new together
When choosing an activity for your kids to learn, why not choose something that’s new to you too.
Learn to hula hoop, play hacky sack, juggle, or practice your handstands.

9. Make it a rule
Make it a rule that for every 30 minutes of TV watched, 10 minutes of exercise must be performed.
This can be a general play or added to a family walk, and it’s a rule that everyone in the house must follow, including you!
Make sure you keep a limit on the number of hours of television watched.
10. Set Up A Maze
Turn the hall into a “laser” maze with yarn.
Zig-zag yarn from varying heights and challenge your kids to get across without touching the laser.
This is a very fun activity that all children enjoy.
